Storen’s 30th Save puts him on a Very Short List

Last night in Chicago, the Washington Nationals’ closer Drew Storen, entered the game for the start of the bottom of the 9th inning and did what he does best and that is he saved another game for the Nats.

Storen’s 30th save of the 2011 season sealed the deal for the Nats’ starter Chien-Ming Wang who won his first game of the season and his first victory in over two years. The  Nats 3-1victory over the Cubs helped the Nats improve there overall record to 56-59. Last night’s save currently ties Storen for sixth best in the National League with the Pittsburgh Pirates’s “ex-Nats closer” Joel Hanrahan.

For the 23 year-old Storen, his 30th save of the season puts him on a very short list of Washington closers that have saved 30 or more games in a season. In fact Drew Storen joins fan favorite Chad Cordero as the only other Washington closer in Washington baseball history to save 30 games or more in one season.

With around seven more weeks left in the season Storen will have a difficult time trying to reach Chad Cordero’s all time Washington mark of 47 saves he recorded during the Nats 2005 season.
