This Day in Nats’ History – Patterson’s first complete game shutout

2005John Patterson has another impressive outing as he struck out a career-high 13 in his first complete game shutout and led the Washington Nationals (58-50) past the Los Angeles Dodgers (48-60) 7-0 for the Nationals’ first series victory in a month. Patterson improved to 5-3 for the season with a 2.42 ERA.

Brad Wilkerson’s homer off reliever Duaner Sanchez  with two outs in the eighth was Washington’s first grand slam of the season.

2007Ryan Zimmerman hit two home runs, and Joel Hanrahan added a two-run double in
his first ever major league win as Washington (50-60) crushed St. Louis Cardinals
(50-57) 12-1. The Nationals’ winning streak reached a season-best five games.
Hanrahan (1-0) struck out three and walked three in sending the Cardinals to their
fourth straight defeat.

2009Adam Dunn’s 28th home run of the season capped a six-run eighth-inning. Dunn’s
two-run homer gave the Washington Nationals (35-72) a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over
the Florida Marlins (55-51).
