25 January 1947 Ethel Posey reflects on her husband

Mrs. Ethel Posey, I have come to learn, was the steadying influence behind the shrewd but erratic Cum Posey, before the Homestead Grays co-owner died last summer. Posey was one of those cussing, fighting, rootin tootin’ hombres who cared little about what he did to you and less about whether you liked it. “Cum was a hard-working man and a fellow who went out to get anything he felt he wanted, regardless of who had it. He’d take anybody’s ball player if he thought his team would be helped, and would spend his last cent of money and last ounce of blood trying to keep him. Very often Cum would get home from a trip fretting over the way things had gone. He’d talk it over with me and I’d try to pacify him that everything would work out all right. When baseball went bad and things looked mighty dark for us financially, we’d sit down and discuss the matter quietly, the only time you could actually accuse Cum of being quiet, and we’d wind up with the view that things couldn’t possibly get any worse, so what was there for us to lose in fighting on!”
