Tim Redding took a one-hitter into the eighth inning and Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homer to lead the Washington Nationals (3-0) to a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies (0-2.

The Nationals are the first Washington based baseball team to start a season 3-0 since the American League’s Nationals opened 4-0 in 1951.

Rick Ankiel drove in three runs with a homer and his first successful suicide-squeeze bunt, Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos each had three hits and the Nationals (1-1) beat the Atlanta Braves(1-1)  6-3.
