James Champlin Osteen B Feb. 24, 1877 D Dec. 14, 1962

Shortstop Champ Osteen joined the Washington Senators in mid-September of 1903 after being drafted from Davenport of the Three-I (Indiana-Illinois-Iowa) League.

Appearing in 10 games for the Senators, Osteen would be 8-40 at bat with 2 triples and 4 RBIs.

Sold to the New York Highlanders in January of 1904, Osteen would play in 28 games for New York.

Out of the majors for the next 3 seasons, Osteen would resurface with the 1908 St. Louis Cardinals playing in 29 games. He’d play in another 16 games with the Cardinals in 1909, his last major league appearance coming in early May.

Frederick William Sington B Feb. 23, 1910 D Aug. 20, 1998

Fred Sington joined the Senators in late September of 1934. Appearing in 9 games he’d hit .286 with 6 RBI’s.

Sington would appear briefly with the Senators each year from 1934 through 1937. His most productive season at the plate would be 1936 when he’d hit .319 in 25 games, his most active season 1937, when he’d play in 78 games.

Traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers in August of 1938 for a player to be named later and cash, (The Dodgers would eventually send Johnnie Chambers to Washington in January of 1939.) Sington would play in 17 games for Brooklyn at the end of the 1938 season hitting .358.

He’d play in 32 games for Brooklyn in 1939, his last major league appearance coming in mid-June.
