Ronald Edward Samford B Feb. 28, 1930 Jan, 14, 2021

Infielder Ron Samford would remain in the majors a couple of more years than our previous birthday boys this
February 28th.

Signed by the New York Giants before the start of the 1948 season, Samford would first appear in the majors with the Giants in April of 1954, playing in 12 games.

Released by New York before the start of the 1955 campaign, Samford would sign on with the Detroit Tigers. He’d play in 1 game for the Tigers that season but would not reappear in the majors until 1957 when he played in another 54 games for Detroit, hitting .220.

Out of the majors again in 1958, Samford would be traded after the season, along with Reno Bertoia and Jim Delsing, to the Washington Senators for Rocky Bridges, Neil Chrisley and Eddie Yost.

Samford’s most active season would be 1959 when he’d appear in 91 games for Washington, hitting .224 while playing shortstop and 2nd base.

Before the start of the 1960 season Samford would be traded one last time, this time to the Baltimore Orioles, along with Clint Courtney for Billy Gardiner. However, Samford would not make it back to the majors with the O’s.
