Noble Winfred Ballou B Nov. 30, 1897 D Jan. 29, 1963

Win Ballou debuted with the Washington Senators in late August of 1925. Pitching in 10 games, Ballou would post a 1-1 record. Ballou would appear in 2 games of the 1925 World Series as the Senators lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 7 games.

Traded to the St. Louis Browns before the 1926 season, along with Tom Zachary in exchange for Joe Bush and Jack Tobin, Ballou would spend the 1926 and 1927 seasons in St. Louis, his most active season as a major leaguer coming in 1926 when he’d pitch in 43 games, posting a 11-10 record.

Out of the majors in 1928, Ballou would join the Brooklyn Robins in 1929, pitching in 25 games, posting a 2-3 record.

James Brooklyn DeShong B Nov. 30, 1909 D Oct. 16, 1993

First appearing with the Philadelphia Athletics for 6 games in 1932, pitcher Jimmie DeShong would return to the majors in 1934 with the New York Yankees. DeShong would spend 1934 and 1935 in New York and then was traded to the Senators along with Jesse Hill in exchange for Bump Hadley and Roy Johnson.

DeShong would spend the next 4 years in Washington, finishing his major league career with the Senators in 1939. His best season would be 1936 when he’d post an 18-10 record in 34 games.

Steven Absher Hamilton B Nov. 30, 1935 D Dec. 2, 1997

Pitcher Steve Hamilton would debut with the Cleveland Indians in April of 1961, appearing in 2 games.

Traded to the expansion Senators before the start of the 1962 season, Hamilton would post a 3-8 record in 41 games with a 3.77 ERA. Returning with the Senators in 1963, Hamilton would appear in just 3 games with the Senators before being traded in late April to the New York Yankees for Jim Coates.

Hamilton would settle in with the New York Yankees through September of 1970, going 7-2 in 1964 and 8-3 in 1966. He’d appear in the World Series of 1963 and 1964 being credited with 1 save.

Released by the Yankees in early September of 1970, Hamilton was signed by the Chicago White Sox where he’d pitch in 3 games at the end of the season.

Traded to the San Francisco Giants, Hamilton would pitch in 39 games going 2-2.

Released after the 1971 season, Hamilton would wind down his career with the Chicago Cubs in 1972, pitching in 22 games, going 1-0, getting his final release in late August of 1972.

Wally Holborow Debuted with the Senators in late September of 1944. He’d appear in 1 game, pitching in 3 innings and would not surrender any hits or runs.

In 1945 Holborow would pitch in 15 games, posting a 1-1 record with a 2.30 ERA.

Out of the majors in 1946 and 1947, Holborow would be released by the Senators prior to the start of the 1948 season.

Signed by the Philadelphia Athletics, Holborow would would appear in 5 games for the A’s, posting a 1-2 record, ending his career with the conclusion of the 1948 season.

Frederick (Firpo) Marberry B Nov. 30, 1898 D Jun. 30, 1976Marberry

Firpo Marberry made his major league debut with the Washington Senators in mid-August of 1923. Pitching in 11 games his first season, Marberry would post a 4-0 record with a 2.82 ERA.

In his first full season in Washington, Marberry would go 11-12 in 50 games, with a 3.09 ERA. Marberry would remain in Washington through 1932. His best season would be in 1929 when he’d go 19-12 in 49 games.

Marberry would appear in all 3 World Series that the Senators were involved in compiling an 0-1 record but collecting 3 saves.

Traded to the Detroit Tigers along with Carl Fischer for Earl Whitehill after the 1932 season, Marberry would pitch in Detroit from 1933 through 1935, being released by the Tigers after the 1935 season.

Signed by the New York Giants, Marberry would pitch in just 1 game before being released in early May of 1936. Signed one last time by Washington, Marberry would conclude his career where it started, pitching in 5 games, posting an 0-2 record, making his appearance in mid-June of 1936.

Marberry would lead the American League in games in 1924, 1925, 1926, 1928, 1929 and 1932. He’d also lead the league in saves in 1924, 1925, 1926, 1929 and 1932.

One Game Wonder Warren Shanabrook had his cup of coffee with the Senators on August 13th of 1906. Playing 3rd base, he’d go 0-2 at the plate.
