Attilio H. (Cookie) Lavagetto B Dec. 1, 1912 D Aug. 10, 1990

Never a Senators player, Cookie Lavagetto would manage the original Washington Senators in their last few seasons in Washington.

Lavagetto would play for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1934 through 1947, missing the World War II years of 1942-1945.

Lavagetto would manage the Senators from 1957 through 1960, replacing another former Brooklyn Dodger, Charlie Dressen. The Senators would finish in last (8th) place in 1957, 1958 & 1959 but with the addition of some promising talent would rise to 5th place in 1960. Alas, it was too little too late as the franchise would shift to Minnesota for the 1961 season. Lavagetto would manage the newly relocated (and renamed) Minnesota Twins for 59 games in 1961, being replaced by Sam Mele with the Twins in 7th place, holders of a 23-36 record.
