This Date in Washington Senators History – Senators trade veteran Heinie Manush

1924 After winning their only World’s Championship, the Washington Senators look to bolster their pitching staff by purchasing Dutch Reuther from Brooklyn. Reuther would reward the Senators by going 30-13 in his year and a half in Washington.

1935 The Senators trade veteran Heinie Manush to the Boston Red Sox for Roy Johnson and Carl Reynolds.

Frederick Peter (Cy) Falkenberg B Dec. 17, 1880 D Apr. 14, 1961

Cy Falkenberg would debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in April of 1903. Pitching in 10 games, Falkenberg would post a 1-5 record with a 3.86 ERA.

Out of the major leagues in 1904, Falkenberg would be back in the majors with the Washington Senators in 1905, being purchased from Toronto, then of the Eastern League, in mid-August.

Falkenberg would post a 7-2 record in 12 games with the Senators.

Falkenberg would remain on the Senators roster through late July of 1908, his most active season with the Senators coming in 1906 when he’d go 14-20 in 40 games, with a 2.86 ERA.

Purchased by the Cleveland franchise, then known as the Naps, Falkenberg would remain in Cleveland through 1913, his best year being his last when he’d post a 23-10 record.

Jumping to the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the short-lived Federal League, Falkenberg would post a 25-16 record in 49 games in 1914.

1915 would see Falkenberg splitting his season between the Newark Peppers and the Brooklyn Tip-Tops in the Federal League.

Out of the majors again in 1916, Falkenberg would return for one last fling with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1917, posting a 2-6 record in 15 games, his last major league appearance coming on Independence Day.
