MICKEY VERNON’S HALL OF FAME VIDEO “ GRAND MEMORIES OF A GREAT CHAMPION”
Few fans of Major League baseball history need an introduction to the name Mickey Vernon. In a playing career that spanned 22 years, playing for five different teams in both leagues, he was a seven-time All-Star and two-time American League batting champion.
During his years in baseball, Mickey used a home movie camera to record the actions and antics of many of his teammates and competitors on the field. This record has been converted to a DVD, along with Mickey’s commentary on his playing career, made during the last years of his 
life. That DVD, titled “Grand Memories of a Great Champion”, consists of two parts: In Part I of the video, made from a series of twelve interview segments–six of them recorded just nine days before his death–Mickey reminisces about his years in baseball as a player, coach, manager and scout.
Part II consists of the images recorded when Mickey used his camera to document an era of baseball history that is now considered to be one of its Golden Ages–that period from 1947 through the 1950s. In this segment, 31 ultimate members of the hall of fame, among others, are captured on film as they practice, play ball, and just fool around.
This DVD has been viewed by representatives of baseball’s Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown and they regard it as being so valuable a documentation of baseball history that they have asked to be permitted to include it as part of the Hall of Fame’s official archives.

Roosevelt “throwing out the first ball,” at least 15 future Hall of Famer’s in their playing days including Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Greenberg, Bill Dickey, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, spring training, bus rides, train travel, pre-game promotions, club house scenes and the life of a major league baseball player.
