This Day in D.C. Baseball History – The Nats’ own the O’s

Ever since the Washington Nationals played their first game in D.C. in 2005 the team has played a game on May 20th each season. There really isn’t anything interesting about that fact that is until you comb though the numbers.

In the eight games the Nats have played on May 20th the team has record of 4-4. When you look a little closer you see where things get more interesting. In the eight games played on the 20th of May, four of those games were against Baltimore Orioles. The other four games were against Toronto, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the New York Mets. In the four games against the Baltimore Orioles the Nationals have a record of 4-0. The Nationals outscored the O’s 38-14 in the four games. The Nats combined to hit 10 home runs against the O’s during the four games.

In the other four games the Nats were 0-4 and were outscored 19-9 and did not hit any home runs. We will see if the Nats can turn this trend around this evening when they take on the World Series Champions’ San Francisco Giants at A&T Park.
