– Andruw Jones and Chipper Jones hit consecutive homers off Chad Cordero with two outs in the ninth inning to give Atlanta (83-60) a 9-7 victory over Washington (73-71). For Andruw Jones, it was his second homer of the game and 49th of the season. He broke the franchise record of 47 shared by Hall of Famers Hank Aaron (1971) and Eddie Mathews (1953).
– Jose Vidro drove in four runs to help the Nationals (62-82) edge the Arizona Diamondbacks (68-76) 7-6. Vidro doubled home a run in the fourth and hit a two-run single in the seventh. In the ninth inning he drew a bases-loaded walk from Luis Vizcaino (4-5) to put the Nationals ahead for good.
– Mike MacDougal’s sinking fastball helped him escape a couple difficult situations during the eighth and ninth innings, and the Washington Nationals (49-92) won in Miami for the first time in the ’09 season, beating the Florida Marlins (75-66) 5-3.
– Bryce Harper had his first four-hit game and pinch-hitter Tyler Moore launched a go-ahead homer off R.A. Dickey in the seventh inning to send Washington (88-54) past the New York Mets (65-77) 5-3. Harper started the game 0 for 10 with six strikeouts against Dickey, Harper doubled and singled twice off the All-Star pitcher. Harper added an RBI single in the ninth off Josh Edgin to become the first teenager with four hits in a major league game since Andruw Jones did it for Atlanta on Sept. 22, 1996.
– Dan Haren‘s pitching and Ryan Zimmerman‘s hitting were enough as the Nats (76-69) over the floundering New York Mets (64-80) 3-0. Haren threw one-hit ball for six innings and Zimmerman hit his 22nd home run of the season and the Nationals won their fifth straight game.
