2005 – John Patterson threw a three-hitter for his second career complete game and the Nationals (77-71) beat the NL West-leading Padres (72-74,) 5-1.
The Nationals, who won their fourth straight game, remained 2½ games behind Houston in the wild-card chase.
2006 – Alfonso Soriano became the fourth player in major league history to record 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season when he swiped second in the first inning of the Washington Nationals’ (64-84) 8-5 win over Milwaukee (67-81). Soriano has 40 steals to go along with 45 home runs.
Before the 2006 season came to an end Soriano started his own club as he became the only player in Major League Baseball history to hit 40 home runs, steal 40 bases, hit 40 doubles and have 20 assist from the outfield in one season.
Jose Canseco – 1988
Barry Bonds – 1996
Alex Rodriguez – 1998
2008 – Odalis Perez shut down the slumping New York Mets (83-67) and scored the only run of the game, sending Washington (58-93) to a 1-0 victory that knocked New York out of first place.
