2006 – Rookie leads Washington Nationals‘(66-85) to a 9-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves (73-78). Rookie, Beltran Perez (1-0), made his first major league start. Perez pitched six innings striking out three and walking none, allowing only a two-out single to Chipper Jones in the first inning.
Nick Johnson homered on his 28th birthday, and Jose Vidro also connected off Chuck James (10-4), Alfonso Soriano added a two-run double — he has 39 doubles to go along with 40 stolen bases and 45 homers.
2012 – Nearing their first playoff berth since arriving in Washington, the Nationals (90-57) scratched out a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers (76-72) in the opening game of a doubleheader.
The Nats’ were led by Jordan Zimmermann‘s six innings of one-run pitching. The win was the Nats’ 90th, the most for a Major League Baseball club in the nation’s capital since 1933.
In a wild game second game, Los Angeles jumped out to an early six-run lead. Washington used a six-run eighth to tie the score at 6-6. Matt Kemp led off the ninth with a homer off closer Tyler Clippard, and the Dodgers 7-6 victory for a doubleheader split that prevented the Nationals from wrapping up their first playoff berth since moving from Montreal in 2005.
2013 – Bryce Harper’s first inning three-run homer was more than enough for Gio Gonzalez, and the Washington Nationals (82-71) as the team beat the Miami Marlins (56-97) 3-2.
