2005 – The Washington Nationals (78-75) used a lineup of rookies and reserves and still managed a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants (71-81.Long time minor leaguer Rick Short delivered two doubles and an RBI and Hector Carrasco threw 5 2/3 shutout innings to help Washington (78-75) end a four-game losing streak.
2006 – Alfonso Soriano became baseball’s first 40-40-40 player, Pedro Astacio turned in a strong start, and the Washington Nationals (67-86) beat New York (92-61) 3-2, Friday night. Soriano hit his 40th double, stole his 41st base and scored a run during the game. With 45 homers, he was only the fourth major league player with 40 homers and 40 steals in a season.
2010 – Danny Espinosa hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and a triple, and Michael Morse added a solo homer, helping Washington (64-88) beat the Houston Astros (73-79) 4-3.
2011 – Brad Peacock, making just his second major league start, pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and Michael Morse hit a three-run homer to lead the Washington Nationals (76-79) to a 6-1 victory over Philadelphia (98-58). The Nats’ victory completes a four-game sweep of the Phillies.
2012 – Gio Gonzalez became the majors’ first 20-game winner of 2012 and the first pitcher for a Washington baseball team with 200 strikeouts since Walter Johnson in 1916. Gio had a shutout into the sixth inning to help the Nationals (92-59) close in on their first NL East title by beating the Milwaukee Brewers (78-73) 10-4.
2013 – Ian Desmond‘s two stolen bases in the 2nd game of the day – night doubleheader gave him his second straight season with at least 20 homers and 20 stolen bases. Stephen Strasburg became the third fastest pitcher (426.1 IP) since 1900 to get to 500 strikeouts behind Kerry Wood (404.2) and Mark Prior (421.2).
