Maurice Charles (Mickey) Harris B Jan. 30, 1917 D Apr. 15, 1971
Signed by the Boston Red Sox before the start of the 1938 season, pitcher Mickey Harris would make his big league debut in April of 1940. Harris would post a 4-2 record in 13 games during his rookie season with a 5.00 ERA.
Back with the Red Sox in 1941, Harris would go 8-14 in 35 games.
Missing the 1942-1945 seasons during World War II, Harris would return to the Boston roster in 1946, having the most successful season of his career, posting a 17-9 record and being named to the 1946 American League All Star Team. Harris would be charged with 2 losses during the 1946 World Series as the Red Sox lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Harris would remain with Boston through mid-June of 1949 when he was traded, along with Sam Mele, to the Washington Senators in exchange for Walt Masterson. Harris would have a rough time with his new team that first year, going 2-12 in 23 games.
He’d remain with the Senators through April of 1952. After just 1 appearance with Washington, Harris would be released and then signed by the Cleveland Indians where he’d go 3-0 in 29 games, his last major league appearance coming in early September.
